Let’s go to Italy

I had lots of imaginations of the life and work in Italy when I decided to attend the TIP program. In the pre –departure briefings, the member of the TIP6 reminded us not only be care of the living in Italy, but also seize the opportunities to travel in different places. She told us not to waste a minute and enjoy the life aboard.
The first month to live in Italy, it took lots of time to adapt to an unfamiliar environment. In Taiwan, there are many APPs with which people can check the bus arrival time, but in Italy were timetables. The supermarket, which is everywhere in Taiwan, are replaced by coffee bar in Italy. The breakfast here is served with egg cakes or a croissant and a cup of coffee. Perugia is an university town surrounded by mountains. I breathe fresh air and walked on the roads in the city center. Oncoming were many students heading to classes or in their leisure stroll. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I started to integrate into their culture and learned to act like an Italian. In afternoon, I would take a cup of coffee to relax and meanwhile to observe the pedestrians on the roads.
There were many holidays we could travel around Italy in the five months. We could have deeper understanding of a city through tourism. In addition to the big cities in Italy, we also visited the neighboring areas such as Assisi and Gubbio
.They were not large cities, but each of them showed its unique culture and characteristics, for example, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore of Florence, the Roman Coliseum and the Cathedral of Milan. Italy was filled with ancient buildings; each of them was representing the cultural and historical trajectory. In the Christmas holidays, I also went to the UK and France. Italy has its own cultural identity, which is very different from that of Britain and France. When I took a stroll in the Britain and France’s streets, it made me feel more modern than in Italy. Those time and opportunities we seized to travel in Europe was a very unforgettable experience for me.
My internship was in The Cultural and Tourism Organization in Perugia (Comune di Perugia). The institution was in charge of organizing the activities and promoting the city tourism. Through the internship opportunities, I could understand all the activities and buildings, which were filled with the history and architectural art in Perugia. Eurochocolate, which was hosted by the Comune di Perugia, was one of the biggest events in Perugia. Many visitors will come to participate in this event. Chocolates decorated the entire city. And vendors were selling a wide range of chocolate products. The crowds filled the city center and made this lively city full of cultural atmosphere.
I was surprised that the lunchtime was more than two hours in Italy. In the rest time, the store would be closed except for few restaurants. It let me rethink the work-life balance which will be an important consideration for the future development of career. Looking back to the five months in Italy, I had left the comfort zone and began a new life in a different place. I found that I could quickly adapt to a new life and make new friends with whoever traveled with me. We had created unforgettable memories in foreign countries in the past few months. Many interesting things happened every day there. Each of us had the different background, when we got together to share our lives, we could hear different internship experiences from everyone. It let me acquired more and profound understandings of the living in Italy.
