(UAS實習生 吳同學 東海大學工工所 二年級)
“Chance favors the prepared mind.” I’m not sure if I have prepared mind, but I know “Take a chance! All life is a chance. The man who goes furthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare.” I just believe it and take my luggage to go Europe in September, 2015.
Working at UAS, I have learned many knowledge and build the background of aerospace and gained practical experience, by applying methods and theories learned in classes. It was not easy for to understand the complexity of aeronautical products. I had to work very hard to me able to quickly understand the products. In the beginning I was afraid of the lunch time. Everybody was chatting in Italian, I didn’t understand any words and didn’t know what can I say. It just like that I am in the same space but different timing. One of my colleague is interested in Asian culture, and he took the initiative to chat with me. Then, I start to learn the Italian from my colleagues and enjoy every lunch time we laugh together. I have many colleagues, and they come from different country. Not only Italy, but Poland and Afganistan. We talk about a lot of things. Such as foods, sport, law, different cultures and rules of governments. They shared their experience and every story with me, every story inspires to me. Making me think of many things about life and future.
Leave the comfort zone of, be the minority group. Then, I have discovered and think about a lot of things. Who am I? Where I come from? The history of Taiwan? What is the difference between Asian people and European? In these months, I went to many places saw many things what I seen and heard on the book and in the movie before. I still miss my family and friends in Taiwan, but I have discovered I’m stronger and more capable than I ever imagined through navigating and discovering the world alone.
Not only did this opportunity allow me to gain exposure to the engineering profession and acquire experience in the field, I also get a big family here. Although I went back to Taiwan, we still keep in touch with Facebook, email and Whatapp. When they heard the News from Taiwan about earthquake, they all send the message to concern this situation. I’m deeply moved.
Too many things I got. Thanks to this internship, It let me met many people, collected many stories, look at things from different perspective more and be able to experience a prospective career path.
