What Italy has changed me
Many people will set themselves a “To do list” in college, such as learning an foreign language, such as studying abroad, or going to an internship at one of the top 100 companies, and I am no exception.
2019 is a year for me to achievement my dream . In the first half of 2019, I was an exchange student at the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) in Beijing. In the second half of the year, I came to Perugia, the capital of Umbria Province in central Italy, to participate in Italian business internships.
I know the origin of this plan because I had participated other plan the same origin held before during my sophomore summer vacation. I felt that I had benefited a lot.
I was confessed that if I should continue my studies or go to searched the work directly, also I don’t know what kind of level my abilities are. After I thought, I get the concluded that I lack the workplace practical experience and needed to practical how to use the foreign language skills.
Finally , I just saw this plan, which is very in keeping with my needs to see what the workplace looks like. I also had a dream of studying in aboard ,and the time of this plan can be just perfect to me. The connection was after my Beijing exchange time, so when I saw this opportunity before I set off in Beijing, I applied without hesitation.
Speaking of this half year, there are too many perseverances. This story begins with awareness of my own shortcomings. Before coming to Italy, I always felt that my English speaking was not perfect and I always felt that my ability was insufficient. In order to cope with completely different things, I also realized that I am still uncertain about the future.
Being aware of my imperfections made me bravely step out of my comfort zone and move towards Italian life.
In the past six months, the times passed quickly more than I expected. I successfully completed the internship, learned a lot of religious culture and agricultural knowledge, learned Italian that can communicate, and experienced the local culture.
Language exchange every Tuesday is the thing I look forward to most every week. People of different nationalities, different skin colors, and different mother tongues gather in a restaurant. We stick stickers of the Taiwan flag to introduce Taiwan, Taiwanese cuisine, Culture, and listen to stories from others around the world. It also showed me that there are many people who are eager to learn Chinese, and because of knowing them, it gave me the determination to apply for the Language Teaching Research Institute.
I also like to have dinner with my roommates every night. We will sit together and talk about their own interesting things. I think they are not just my roommate, but more like my family in Italy.
The journey is over, but the story is endless. Although our internship is over, I think the story between us, whether it is the story with our roommates or the connection with Italy, is still to be continued.
