NATALIE IN ITALY : Life & Gain
I am lucky that I have the opportunity to join the 9th Taiwan Italy Program. In 2017, I exchanged in YSU in the US. After I came back to Taiwan, at that time, I found TIP announcement in a chance. I knew this is a fate. Then, without worried, I applied to the program. Even though I could not speak Italian also I did not understand Italian culture. However, no one could predict the future. The world is bigger than I thought. The future marketing is becoming huge and huge. To join TIP, I knew I would learn a lot from this internship. For preparing, I read books are written by authors who work abroad. From their stories, which could let me pre-understanding the oversea workplace. Furthermore, I took Italian course. I got some basic Italy background from north-Italian teacher.
No matter how I prepared, it’s never enough. The better way is facing the challenge. On the first day, I tried to remember the basic sentences and said it when I bought tea in store. I learned how to order a meal in café shop. To have cup of Italian caffé to start my half year internship. When I first walked in UAS, I was confused to
talk in English or Italian to greet with colleagues. Honestly, I worried about work duty after I knew I would get in an aerospace company. I studied books explain structure of aircrafts. However, this industry is beyond my ability. I am lucky that I am not the first intern in UAS. The files pervious interns made which helped me quickly to know well company’s running and product.
During the internship, boss Massimo asked me to join some meetings. Due to all colleagues spoke Italian, it is hard to follow. But the files are typed in English, I could understand the topic what they discussed. Moreover, co-worker Maddalena explained the content to me. Then, again and again, I learned the different parts of work in each meeting. UAS has many departments which have complex workload. Besides, we have numbers of suppliers and customers. From discuss, design, produce, test and more, in every process, it usually takes a long period. Working in UAS, I aware how hard to build an airplane. There are many projects working at the same time. We have to make sure every detail is under scheduled, for example, the delivery time, successful testing, the safety of products, and more. I truly admire the ability of boss Massimo. He is a successful leader.
In fact, due to some differences, it is hard to learn all in the short time. However, from this experience, I saw lots of possibilities. I still remember the lesson colleagues taught me. “The way to keep life brighten, it is to do the thing you love. To cherish the time at this moment, time goes faster than we think. Enjoy the youth and be brave to try or take some risks.” I can image how pressure will be after I started a full-time job. I will always keep their lesson in
my mind. In 2018, I had a new idea of future plan. First of all, I will organize all the photos, flyers and any memorable stuffs. To combine them as articles in a personal blog or even a book. In the period of seeking jobs and taking rest, I will prepare the Certification and License of English tour leader. Lastly, I must review and also study higher level Italian. In five-month internship, the things I learned are beyond I excepted. The valuable working experience that gave me a chance to use as the best advantage. It will be a great help to me in future.
Thank you all!
