There are plenty of international companies in Vietnam. Not only Taiwan, but also China, Japan are setting plants in Vietnam. Every plant needs labors. From the viewpoint of global labors, currently the Southeast Asia is the best place for lower labor cost. In the Southeast Asia, there are spacious land and numerous people. And I think the best country in Asia for plant to be invested is Vietnam, because Vietnam is surrounded by the sea, and has ports.
My internship is in Taipei office in the beginning. MEN-CHUEN FABRIC COMPANY is local Taiwanese company, and the main product is fabric. Most of our customers are sporty brands. Although being a fabric company, we hope to develop to the downstream industries, like garment industries. And then moving to OBM is our target.
At first, I was not familiar with the fabric industry. Because I was usually exposed to the finished product, or brand advertising, I seldom understood the relationship between upstream and downstream. In the clothing industry, the beginning is from yarn. Cloth merchants buy yarn, woven gray fabric, get it into the color vat, sold to garment factories, and ultimately sell to consumers by the brand. Because attributed corporate social responsibility, the brand will further requested the upstream plant must comply with the requirements of the brand and audit certificate. As brands pressure upstream of the plant, if upstream of the plants did not improve, it will face with no order and may end up with losing money.
In Taipei for two weeks, Production Supervisor, Jennifer, show me factory jobs, including dyeing factory, weaving factory, logistics, and our main products. The specialist teaches me factory management courses, continuing improvement, 6s and quality control included. Make me more get the point from my internship.
Taiwan is small, so factory scales in Taiwan industrial park are not too big. Different from Taiwan, Vietnam is much bigger, most of land is undeveloped. Our plant in Vietnam is far away from HCMC around 50 km, and the transportation is not convenient. Just arrived in Vietnam, the weather is hardest matter to get used to. The morning temperature can reach 40 degrees.
My job in MEN-CHUEN Vietnam plant is continuing improvement. In business management course, I reach personnel and production. Due to the third plant is just finished, I was responsible for the setting project. My trainer is my manager. He let me be in charge for the plan, and assisted by the specialist from Taiwan. I learn a lot from it. Although sometimes I had poor communication with Vietnamese colleagues, resulting in several repeated operations, through communication and discussion, we improved the logistics line, making the ship more smooth and concise.
In human resource, currently we use the staff audition for evaluating our staff. The score scale is not clear, and everyone focus on different points and has different standards, that makes differences between the audition. For the sake of it, we would like to change the actual situation into data, and provide consistent standards to our staff, making results more objective. If the examination was carried out smoothly, and results were in accordance with the target, on it, we will consider staff incentives, and give them more benefits.
Vietnam factory has just set up for more than a year, and our productivity is based on Taipei HQ, but we still actively develop our Vietnam customer group and local market, inviting other company agent to visit our factory. On international business, it includes not only Taiwanese, but Japanese, Hong Kong, China and Singapore. So for this internship, I think the most important thing is the ability of language to express. If one is good at English, experience at work will also be much wider. Because of the language, I served Vietnamese certified auditors with colleagues, and had led to the NIKE headquarters for certificate. In trips, I also made a lot of local friends. MEN-CHUEN has plenty joint ventures, so I So I highly recommend someone good at language come to MEN-CHUEN for an intern, there must be huge wonderful memories.
