(台灣 正新輪胎實習生 吳同學)
Why not take a new challenge at the final period of your student life? Take the road less traveled, you may explore extraordinary sceneries. I have chosen to go intern, and then an unpredicted journey has started.
I am an intern at the Human Resource Department of Cheng Shin Tire (CST), one of the top ten tires brand in the world. CST is a global enterprise with headquarter in Changhua-Taiwan, 12 manufacture plants and sales to more than 180 countries worldwide. Being a large scale and long-established firm, it possesses a traditional corporate culture. From here, I have learned a lot and became more mature.
Anxiety and embarrassment was inevitable on the first day. I was sent back to HR department after a series new comer training courses. Every colleague here was so welcoming that I could adapt into our team quite easily. I in turn worked at the Recruiting section and the Learning and Developing section. Within the time in the Recruiting section, I mainly learned the recruiting process, which help to solve the company personnel need and to achieve corporate goals. It was the first time when I realized how a firm recruiting process works, how to search and find potential qualified candidates from the 104 Work power bank, and how to contact and communicate with the applicants. I could meet various kinds of people here, from which I could improve my communication skill, strengthen the spontaneous response and problem solving ability. At the Learning and Developing section, I got access to the organizational Teaching and training plan. Through the diversified training courses, it provides employees the opportunity to acquire more knowledge and self-developing. A successful course is one that can achieve the corporate goals, meet employee needs and gain whole support from the company. While planning and executing courses, I have more chance to meet people from different departments, talking with them helps us understand their needs more well and receive practical feedback to make improvement. Also, it can widen your interpersonal relationship.
From the very first time, my instructor once told me that: “It’s better to see yourself as a full-time working employee instead of an intern”. This has made me realize that no matter what you work, attitude is extremely important. Only when you don’t see yourself as an intern who can make mistake, you will work with your whole concentration and ability. From which, you can actually learn more and gain more experience. At work, you need to equip yourself with a positive learning desire, your attitude will play the decisive role. To learn more, you should have the courage to ask more and to take new duty, don’t be afraid of making mistake. With every mission, a completed planning in advance is advisory. During the execution, it’s better for you to have a clear understanding and control thoroughly what you are responsible for, in order to find out and solve problem without delay. It’s also a way to enhance your sense of responsibility. On the interpersonal relationship, it’s important to have a harmonious relationship with your colleagues. As a new comer, if you are humble and willing to learn, you assuredly can learn their different ways of completing tasks. However, it doesn’t mean that you have to exactly follow what they do. You should judge independently and apply the one that most suits you, which will build up your own style and value instead.
At Cheng Shin, I have met up a group of awesome peers. From the warm-hearted welcoming dinner on the first day to a series of gathering dinner and word ship time after, stress at work can be released thanks to these happy and relaxing time. They gave me a lot of precious advice and recommendation, not only at work but also in life and even future planning. To be honest, I have never thought that I could have met such nice guys. They are the ones let me know that, it’s possible for the colleagues in the office to become friends and partners after work. My intern period couldn’t have been so smooth and meaningful like that without them.
Intern means that you have put one foot into the real social working life. I have deeply made out many ways of the world, and also have gained quite a lot experience from it. Because of internship, I realize more clearly what I really want, and find out a defined direction and to make better preparation for the future. Although I have just been introduced with the basic aspects of the recruiting, training, employing and retaining part of Human resource. I could get access to the practical aspects, not just through the theories on books anymore. And it also let me get another perspective of HR. I here send my deep gratitude to this “International internship program”, Cheng Shin Tire and every of you, the people I have met during this period of time. Thanks to all, I have enjoyed my last days of university life.
